What is a Jumpstart Service?
A jumpstart service involves using another vehicle’s battery or a portable battery booster to give enough power to the dead vehicle’s battery to start the engine.
How Does It Work?
- Preparation: The service provider arrives and parks the working vehicle close to the one that needs a jumpstart, ensuring that the vehicles do not touch.
- Connecting Cables: The provider will use jumper cables, connecting the positive (red) clamp to the positive terminal of the dead battery and the positive terminal of the good battery. Then, they connect the negative (black) clamp to the negative terminal of the good battery and the other negative clamp to an unpainted metal surface on the car with the dead battery, away from the battery itself.
- Starting the Engine: With the cables properly connected, the provider will start the working vehicle’s engine, letting it run for a few minutes. Then, they will attempt to start the vehicle with the malfunctioning battery.
- Removing Cables: Once the dead vehicle’s engine is running, the cables are removed in the reverse order of how they were connected.
